Naming Ceremony Celebrant in Shropshire & Mid Wales

Handwritten massages on leaves float in glass bowl for outdoor naming ceremony in south Shropshire

What are naming ceremonies?

How wonderful and important to come together as a family or community to greet and celebrate new life. If you are a Christian a christening is appropriate, but what if you don’t have a specific faith, or no spiritual beliefs at all? Let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater when it comes to ceremony!

If you choose me to help you to create the ceremony, I will work closely with you to create a wholly special and memorable occasion that welcomes the baby or child into their own unique family and the world.

Our initial meeting and conversation will be followed up with further contact by phone, email or in person to ensure everything is just right. I will spend time with you and your family; I’ll encourage and support participation from those who wish to be actively part of the ceremony and can make suggestions as to how this can be achieved.

We will also discuss the music, poetry or readings that you would like to be included. I have a love of poetry and a wide ranging collection and I can help with suggestions if you would like.  Friends and family members often wish to speak, sing or play music at the service and I will ensure their contributions dovetail smoothly into the overall ceremony.

Little touches can make a big difference. Naming ceremonies I have previously designed have included hand written prayer flags, origami boats, leaf wishes, wishing trees, kites, themed food, songs, jokes, juggling, fire, wind and water elements. There’s so much scope for making a lovely shared ceremony for your little one.

I will send you a draft copy of the ceremony before the day for your approval and a final copy for safe keeping afterwards.

Naming ceremonies are £300.

“Sian crafted the most beautiful and heartfelt naming ceremony for our little boy. She worked with us to really find out about us a family and what each of his names meant to us, and wove it into a deeply meaning ceremony. Everyone commented on how special it was, and how the different parts flowed together. She provided ideas and encouragement for the guide parents and other family members to get involved in different ways, really bringing everyone together. She was professional but friendly and was the perfect person to perform such an important ceremony for us.”
